A Villanova University professor committed suicide two days before he was set to start a federal prison term for child pornography, officials announced Tuesday.
Christopher Haas, a former history professor, was found dead Saturday in a wooded area near the tracks of the Whitford SEPTA train, police said.
The Chester County Coroner’s Office announced Tuesday his death was a suicide.

Haas, 60, had bled to death, and officers found a knife at the scene, as well as a backpack and sleeping bag.
The ex-professor had mailed letters to relatives telling them about his intentions, according to Philly.com.
One letter tipped police to where they would eventually find his body.
Haas, who was married and had two sons, was supposed to begin a 20-month prison term Monday for a child porn charge. He pleaded guilty last September to using a Villanova computer in March 2016 to search for child porn for seven hours.
He was sentenced in December.
